Famous for carrying two tennis balls in his mouth, Blue is Battersea’s longest-stay dog at 465 days. He is a happy, contented and loyal dog who is bright and easy to train. So why has this handsome two year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross not found a home, and is there someone out there who would like to give him one?

Susan Barry, a volunteer who has worked with Blue for over a year, says: “In many ways Blue is his own worst enemy. He is accepting, loyal, and quite content. He lies quietly in his kennel and people pass him by. Other dogs are stressed so people feel sorry for them. Or they are cute and brushing up against the bar. Blue just ‘accepts his lot’ and lies there at the back unnoticed.”
She goes on to say: “Once you‘ve seen him a few times he builds up a great bond. He won’t ever forget you, and he’s so grateful for whatever time or affection you can give. He won’t push you for more; he just takes things in his stride. At the same time he’s not complacent; he’s energetic, quick to learn and really enjoys training sessions. He has a great deal to offer.“
Customer Services Manager Lindsey Quinlan says: “Blue was given to the Home at about 12 months of age after his owner had a heart attack and could no longer cope. He has been here for so long he knows no different. He behaves well in kennels, he follows his routine. He has accepted that he gets walked and fed every day and sometimes a ‘kennel session’, too, but that’s the extent of his world. We really hope there is someone out there who will show Blue there is so much more to life.”
Blue needs an understanding owner who will gently expand his world. He’ll flourish slowly and an incredibly deep bond is likely to form between Blue and his new owner.
The dog walking volunteers believe Blue would make a terrific jogging companion as he is great on a lead, has high energy levels, and is not in the least bit distracted by other dogs. Equally, he’s got such a content, accepting nature he’s the sort of dog that could be left alone for a few hours a day without causing havoc. In other words Blue’s new owner will enjoy the best of both worlds.
If you think you may be able to offer a home to Blue, please come and meet him at Battersea, London where he will proudly show off his tennis ball-carrying skills, or read his full profile and watch a short video of him.
